Landslide Incident In The Rodriguez, Rizal Landfill Site Investigated |

In response to a reported landslide incident which occurred on July 29, 2009, at the Rizal Provincial Sanitary Landfill Site located in Rodriguez, Rizal, a composite investigation team from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Central and Region IV-A Offices were immediately dispatched to look into the cause or causes of the phenomenon. The investigation team was composed of geologists from said MGB offices led by MGB Region IV-A OIC Regional Director Miguel C. Fernandez, Jr., personnel from the Office of Civil Defense led by Mr V. Tomazar, Regional Director of OCD Region IVA, and elements of the local police of Rodriguez led by their Chief of Police.

Local Mining Code For Quezon Mulled |

The Local Government of the province of Quezon recently disclosed that a proposed ordinance providing for a “Local Mining Code” has been filed for deliberation and enactment by its Sanggunian Panlalawigan.
At present, there are three (3) existing or prevailing national mining laws that are currently being observed throughout all the provinces or territorial jurisdiction of the Philippines and these are the following:

MGB IV-A Clears Proposed Sanitary Landfill Facilities in Mauban, Quezon |

In accordance with R.A. 9003 otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, all local government units (LGUs) are obligated to identify and acquire/allocate/reserve land areas for municipal solid waste disposal facilities. Said environmental law also provides that the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) together with its various Regional Offices all over the country are mandated to extend technical assistance to these LGUs in the evaluation and assessment of the technical viability and geological suitability of certain land properties identified or proposed by LGUs as potential sites for municipal solid waste disposal facilities.
